Our Program

Day 01 Arrive Paro – Thimphu

In clear weather, Druk Air’s flight to Bhutan provides a wonderful view of the Himalayan scenery. Whether flying along the Himalayan range from Kathmandu or over the foothills from Calcutta, it is a fascinating journey, culminating in an exciting descent past forested hills into the kingdom. On arrival at Paro airport, you will be met by our representative and after completion of immigration and customs formalities, you will drive to Thimpu, which lies at a distance of 55 km and will take approx. 2hrs. Upon arrival, you will check into your hotel. Thimphu, the modern capital town of Bhutan. En route stop at Chuzom (confluence) where Paro river joins Thimphu river. Nearby Thimphu, visit Simtokha Dzong. This dzong, built in 1627 is the oldest in Bhutan. It now houses the Institute for Language and Culture Studies. Our representative will take you for a stroll around town’s main street, this evening. Our representative will be accompanying you throughout your stay in Bhutan. Return to hotel for dinner & overnight.

Day 02 Thimphu

After breakfast, our representative will accompany you to visit National Memorial Chorten, Trashichhodzong, Textile and Folk Heritage Museum & Handicraft Museum. National Memorial Chorten: The building of this landmark was envisaged by the third king, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, as a monument to world peace and prosperity. Completed in 1974 after his untimely death. Trashichhodzong: This impressive fortress/monastery houses Secretariat building, the throne room of His Majesty, the King, and various government offices. It is also the summer residence of Chief Abbot and central monk body. Textile and Folk Heritage Museum: These museums, both of which opened in 2001, provide fascinating insights into Bhutanese material culture and way of life. Handicrafts Emporium: This government-run enterprise displays a wide range of beautifully hand-woven textiles and craft products. It also carries a small collection of books on Bhutan, Buddhism and Himalayan culture. Return to hotel for dinner & overnight.

Day 03 Thimphu – Trongsa

After early breakfast, drive to Trongsa, at a distance of 200 km and will take approx 6 hrs. Crossover Dochu-la passes at 10,130 feet stopping briefly here to take in the view and admire the Chorten, Mani wall, and prayer flags which decorate the highest point on the road. If skies are clear one can see Masagang, Tsendagang, Terigang, Jejegangphugang, Kang Huang, Zongphugang and Gangkar Puensum, the highest peak in Bhutan at 7,497m. Further drive onwards arriving Wangduephodrang town for lunch. The descent from Dochula into Wangdiphodrang valley is quite long as the altitude difference is 1,700 meters. Proceed to Trongsa across Pelela pass at 3,300 m, the traditional boundary between east and west. The pass is marked by a large prayer flag and the ground is covered with high altitude dwarf bamboo. Stop en route at Chendbji Chorten, which was built in 18th century by a Lama named Shida, it is Nepalese in style with eyes painted at four cardinal points. Arrive Trongsa and check into your lodge for dinner & overnight.

Day 04 Trongsa – Punakha

Breakfast at the hotel followed by a walk to Trongsa Dzong (built by Shabdrung in 1647) and climb up to visit the Ta Dzong (watch tower), dedicated to epic hero, King Gesar of Ling. After lunch drive to Punakha, a distance of 135 km and will take approx 5 hrs. En-route visiting 17th-century majestic Wangdue Dzong followed by the visit to local market. The district of Wangduephodrang is also famous for its bamboo products, slate and stone carvings. Arrive Punakha and check into your for dinner & overnight.

Day 05 Punakha – Paro

Breakfast at the hotel followed by a visit Punakha Dzong. It’s a massive structure built at the junction of two rivers. It was the capital of Bhutan until 1955 and still serves as the winter residence of the monk body. The first King, Ugyen Wangchuck was crowned here in 1907. The fortress has withstood several damages from fire, earthquake, and flood. The latest flood of Oct’ 1994 caused great damages to the fortress but miraculously spared the statue of Buddha Jojampa. After lunch, proceed to Paro, a distance of 125 km and will take approx 4 ½ hrs. En-route visit traditional Bhutanese farmhouse which offers good insight into the lifestyle of local people and their culture. On arrival in Paro, check into the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 07 Depart Paro

After breakfast in the hotel, drive to the airport for flight to onward destination.
